church unchurch

Performance with wood and black ribbon, 2018.

Description

This performance took place in October 2018 in conjunction with the exhibition Continuity of Context: Five Artists in Dialogue with Cheekwood's Collection at the Cheekwood Estate and Gardens in Nashville, TN. Taking place in a gallery installed with the work of photographer Jack Spencer, this performance responded to Spencer's distressed photographs of American landscapes and decaying church structures. The performance consisted of constructing a frame of an archetypal country-style church using wood and ribbon, and subsequently deconstructing the form to create an abstracted sculpture.

Special thanks to Peter Hill for participating in the performance.
